PhD

Doctorate Program in Dokuz Eylül University Law School

Doctorate is the second level of the postgraduate study. The number of applicants and the quota for master’s study is relatively high. Though the quota for acceptance to the doctorate programme is relatively limited in order to be able to accept more qualified candidates after the master’s study.

The doctorate study is generally preferred by academicians who are employed in university positions and by people who want to specialize and improve their knowledge to a higher level after master’s study.

Currently there are two doctorate programmes in our Faculty: private law and public law. A precondition for admission as a doctoral candidate is, in principle, to hold a Bachelor and Master degree of Law. Further conditions for admission to the doctorate programme are stipulated and declared by Graduate School of Social Sciences.

After two semesters of doctoral lectures, the doctoral canditate has to take a proficiency examination. The doctoral candidate has between 6 months and one year time for preparation to this examination. If the doctoral candidate succeed in this examination, she/he can write her/his PhD thesis under the supervision of her/his doctoral advisor (supervisor). After writing and succesfully succesfully defending her/his PhD thesis, she/he earns a PhD degree.
